How Does it Work?

Extensive studies on Garcinia Cambogia have produced a growing body of evidence that irrefutably proves how Garcinia Cambogia works to reduce weight. Research shows Garcinia Cambogia’s high levels of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) works to reduce weight controlling the absorption of fats and sugars during the digestive process ^[1][2] and by suppressing appetite levels ^[4][5][8].

When we become hungry or smell food, dopamine is realised in the brain to increase appetite ^[15]. Dopamine release is controlled by hormones from the pancreas, gut and fat stores that detect nutritional needs. As food is digested, the bowels send a trigger to the brain to produce orexins – which regulates serotonin production. ^[16] This process is self regulating and maintains a person’s appetite and body weight.

Serotonin, known as the feel good hormone ^[17] is neurotransmitter primarily found in the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract. 90% of the bodies serotonin is located in the gastrointestinal tract, where it is primarily used to regulate intestinal movements [18][19]. Other functions include the regulation of mood, memory, appetite and body weight regulation ^[20].

Garcinia Cambogia high Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) content suppresses appetite by increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain ^[8][4]. Serotonin works by decreasing anticipatory behaviour by consuming 5-HT2C receptors on dopamine-producing cells ^[21]. The fat producing enzyme plays an important role in fatty acid biosynthesis and is the link between the metabolism of carbohydrates and the production of fatty acids (converting carbohydrates into fats and sugars) ^[23].

By blocking this enzyme the body significantly reduces carbohydrate metabolism ^[1].The fats and sugars associated with the carbohydrates are eliminated from the diet do not enter the blood stream. This process ensures the majority of fats that are consumed, never make it to the cells but are instead passed into the large intestine with other waste and then passed with the stool, reducing the amount of fat absorbed into the system. ^[2][4]
